Gargantua read "with his eyes sitting on his book". Formed like the curves of a book, the Literary chair offers the reader a whimsical perspective; a characteristic that allows the reader to lose themselves in fantasy. The chair's unique profile gives it an instantly recognizable visual signature that attracts attention. Once the reader has finished their book, the chair can be stacked for storage.
The Literary chair is constructed from a 22 mm tubular steel frame and a pressed molded polycarbonate seat and backrest. The entire structure is lacquered, giving it a sleek and polished appearance. With dimensions of W 420 x D 440 x H 840 mm, the chair is designed to provide comfort without sacrificing style.
A small, spiritual and dreamy chair that evokes the world of literature through the iconic object of a book. The backrest and seat take on the characteristic curves of open pages. The chair has been crafted in a minimalist fashion in order to focus on this resemblance, and to let the imagination be carried away by the rich worlds of writing. The curved parts are made of polycarbonate that are attached to a 22 mm tubular steel base. The chair is designed to be stackable.
Designed by Grasset François, the Literary chair was born out of a desire to create a seat that communicates an invitation to meditation and escape. The chair had to be functional and delicate, opening up space and allowing everyone to project into their dreams. The curvature of the backrest and seat resembles the pages of a book, a universal object known to all.
The Literary chair was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The chair's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, along with its strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
